Italy : Livigno

Livigno is an anomaly, being a tax free area within Italy. This status has been in existence since 1600. The resort is at 1810m so snow is reliable and is backed up by good snow making. It stretches out along the valley and is quite attractive. Most of the buildings are low rise and built in traditional style, slightly marred by the many electronic shops and supermarkets. The duty free status draws in more than just skiers so the après ski and night life is lively. Restaurants and bars are numerous and on the whole good value. The skiing is on both sides of the valley and is surprisingly convenient and well connected.

Livigno is a non skiers paradise.

Shops by the hundred, clothing, electronics, perfume, whiskey, equipment shops, curios, mini-markets for food and essentials, banks and ATM machines make life easy. Coffee shops !

Night life - economical and varied. Try Daphne's, The Khustal, Miki's pub, and many more. For the youngsters there are disco's and clubs.

Adventure sports - paragliding, snow and summer 18 hole golf just 20 minutes away at St Moritz, Europe's best snow park on the Mottalino, curling, indoor pools and X country skiing. Ice skating, ice sculptures, skidooing, ice driving, deval carting, husy dog rides, tubing, and more.

Restaurants abound, with all sorts of diners in town, as well as many mountain restaurants for skiers to enjoy.

If you are bored with skiing we will arrange excursions for you to places like Milan, Zurich, Bormio, St Moritz, & Lake Como !

The best is to fly in to Zurich airport. Milan Malpensa is the alternative. Meet us there for your transfer to Livigno. It should take about 4 to 5 hours. From Zurich the bus is placed on a train to negotiate the tunnel.

We offer scheduled shuttle transfers and private transfers, depending on your wishes, and your arrival and departure times.

In the village there is a ski bus which travels on 3 routes throughout the day and until 19h30. The bus is free to skiers. The buses are surprisingly efficient and hassle free.

Livigno really put in an effort for the kids. Although the village is large one soon gets used to it and can find your way around. There are special child classes at ski school, and the Mottolino Mountain especially lay on a play room during the day for small kids - so parents can collect them after skiing. They have toys, video games etc.
